About Moi

I was born in June 1981, I'm a hearing impaired paper-crafter who loves all things crafty. I sew, although I'm still very much a novice at sewing. I bake and cook hopefully all kinds of delicious treats. I have a huge passion for photography and the camera {yes I'm old school I still use an actual camera} is never far from me. I also love creative writing from making up sentiments/verses for my cards and other paper-craft projects to penning some fiction. I am an avid reader and if you are very unlucky I may even throw in some book reviews on here too!

Weather

It's Groundhog day or weather at http://ikesworldchallengeblog.blogspot.co.uk/ I don't really know what groundhog day is but as weather is mentioned I'm guessing it is the same as our St Swithens day that dictates the weather?  Anyway regardless of the meaning I went with weather and decided it was time I did some art journalling.

I choose Ike's Wind fairy and created my own background using dies and airbrushing with promarkers.

Tic Tac Toe and some frosty Daffodils.

Over at One Stitch at a Time it is tic tac toe fortnight.  You can make your choice from the following grid:

For my piece I chose, Distressing, Own background and 3 or more layers.
The image I used is:  Christmas Stocking Doodle by Crafty Girl Creations.

This is the result of my creations:

I am entering it in the following Challenges:

Recently we have had a really warm winter but just for one night we had temperatures of minus 4 and a frost the next morning.  It must have confused the daffodils because in the recent warm weather that had already started to bloom.  So with a frost and early spring bulbs flowering there was no alternative but to get the camera out.

New Beginnings

Welcome to my second post of 2016, don't panic I won't count them all, I am thrilled with this particular post as it allowed me to do some much craved art journalling.  It's "new beginnings" over at Ikes World Challenges and I decided that I would use the beginning of the year as my theme.

I never do resolutions as I know I wouldn't keep them and fail to see why they are set at the beginning of the year when you can make an active decision to change a part of your life at any point in the year because it's not the timing that's important but the decision that you are ready and willing to try and make this change work.  So because I'm so anti resolutions I did wonder what I hoped for in 2016 and for me it was to continue something I began in late 2015, around autumn time I decided I wanted to be ME.  Yes that simple I just wanted to be me, to let the real me show and to forget or not even listen to what others thought about that.

My art journal page shows images from Ike's art, starting with the saucy fairy casting some fairy dust over my intentions to continue being me and wearing my dresses as portrayed by the do your thing image and the ice skater minus her skates shows my love for yoga if only I could find the time...something I am still working on. I did think about adding other things I'd love to see continue in my life, but not only did I not want to over crowd the page I couldn't find the images I had in my brain of sky scrapper high piles of books or cakes.  That said I find time for those so it seemed more appropriate the fairy helped me with the things I struggle the most with.

I have air brushed the background using promarkers, the images are coloured with coloursoft pencils and either very tiny beads or glitter has been added to make them sparkle.  My journal has a perforated edge about half an inch in from the binding and the more I used the journal the more the pages tear out so I've just secured the perforations with some washi tape.

Hopefully this is my last extended post as you'll be pleased to know I am running out of things to share with you.  I've whipped up a batch of dairy free chocolate orange giant cookies, a first and very successful in my opinion.  It's just as well I don't do resolutions as if I'd chosen a diet I'd have failed already!

I also made a neighbour, adoptive mother, very good friend a special Christmas card at the last minute before Christmas.

I used the bookatrix board and some aged paper distress ink for the pages.  I gilded the edges with a wink of stella gold glitter.  The images are available from Ikes Art and are coloured with coloursoft pencils and the wink of stella brushes.

Anything but Square/Rectangle

Happy New Year everyone!   This will be my first post of 2016 and I am afraid it's a busier than normal post.  I like to keep things separate normally, it's my ocd for organisation but I haven't had the opportunity to blog over the Christmas period, so I'm going to add a few bits onto my upcoming posts for a little while. I just hope that you don't get too bored with me!

Firstly it's Anything but sqaure/rectangle fortnight over at:  One Stitch at a time.  It may be January but I'm slowly getting into the preparations for Christmas 2016 {I never like to be rushed} and therefore I am altering the tired old red cracker boxes and sprucing them up in time for Christmas.

I have four triangular boxes of two sizes that I use {these will be updated again to something else in the next 2 years} to pop a treat, gift, joke and hat in.  Because they are triangular in shape they are blooming awkward to decorate and although I tried to airbrush I ended up sponge painting them oh and for the record red is blooming hard to cover even using gesso!    The image is Holly girl from Cootsy Creations.

I am entering the Triangular boxes in the following challenges:

http://justusgirlschallenge.blogspot.co.uk/  If someone pops over here from the just us girls challenge blog could you please explain where I find the image for thumbnail?  I chose generic as I'm not a technical person and finding the image would have confused me,  I have only ever used a link thing where the image appeared automatically sorry.

As many of you know I love baking and this year I set out with the intention to make/bake things I could eat over the Christmas period.  I've had to go mostly dairy free in recent years and last year discovered that odd treat will hurt and I will have to go completely dairy free.  With this in mind I made a cheats Christmas cake.  A carrot cake using all the spices of Christmas but made with oil rather than butter, I just decorated with a brandy frosting {using goats butter, I only have to avoid cows dairy luckily} and holly leaves.

I also managed a dairy free yule log using dairy free chocolate and because I appear to have issues with cream no matter what animal produces it I used milk and butter {goats} for the chocolate ganache.

Since Christmas I have been busy making some thank you cards for those who sent/gave me gifts and for those who have been wonderful, generous and kind supportive friends in 2015 and who I am proud to take into 2016 with me.  Here is a sample made from some crafting goodies a penpal sent me:
